Architectural Model LED Installation

Embedded LED system in an architectural model that visualises energy flows between generation, storage and consumption.

May 2026

For a client in architectural model making, IMeTech Engineering designed and delivered a complete LED installation in a large architectural model of an energy landscape. Green flow lines between wind turbines, solar panels, storage and industry show how power moves through the model — ideal for trade shows, showrooms and client presentations.

At the heart is an ESP32 microcontroller driving hundreds of addressable LEDs throughout the model. Physical switches per continent allow zones to be enabled independently and switch between day and night modes — without a laptop or separate software.

An embedded web portal connects via WiFi and offers full control over the lighting: configure sections, manage continents, choose colours and animations, view live preview and fine-tune the installation. Everything is manageable from one interface, on site or during setup.

IMeTech handled the full trajectory: from electronics and firmware to on-site installation and delivery at the client's site, including fine-tuning animations and switches during setup. The result is a reliable, maintainable system that enables the client to convincingly demonstrate energy infrastructure to visitors.

Who is this for?

This kind of installation suits model builders, architects and companies who want a presentation model to stand out at a trade show, in a showroom or during a client pitch. It's also a good example for anyone who wants to explain energy or infrastructure projects visually to visitors without a technical background: instead of a technical drawing, they literally see how power flows through a landscape. Anyone looking for a system that non-technical staff can operate on the day will find a useful example here too.

What makes it special?

What stands out is the combination of scale and ease of use. Hundreds of LEDs across the entire model are driven by a single ESP32, yet operation stays simple: physical switches per continent let zones be turned on or off and switched between day and night mode without a laptop or software involved. For anyone who wants to fine-tune further, a web portal connects over WiFi and gives full control over colours, animations and sections — so the system is as easy to adjust as it is to operate.
