The Soldering Fume Extractor is a portable filtration unit developed for professional and hobbyist workspaces. It utilizes an axial fan to draw flux fumes directly from the source through a replaceable active carbon filter, ensuring a clean and safe environment during long soldering sessions.

Fully designed in SolidWorks for additive manufacturing, the unit features a tool-less filter replacement system and an internal Li-Ion battery for full wireless deployment. The compact form factor allows it to fit on any bench without obstructing the workspace.

This project showcases how airflow design and 3D print optimization can converge into a functional, ergonomic tool for hardware engineers.

Who is this for?

This fume extractor is a good fit for anyone who solders regularly and would rather not breathe in the smoke and fumes it produces, from hobbyists at the kitchen table to professionals in the workshop. Because it's wireless and compact enough to sit on any bench, it's also a good solution for anyone without a fixed extraction setup or who moves between different workspaces. It's a nice example, too, for anyone curious how a functional problem can be solved through 3D printing and smart design.

What makes it special?
